The very first Cross Culture Surf took place last week in Lahinch (Ireland). 15 students from the Basque Country joined 15 students from Ireland for a week of surfing, culture and living together on the West Coast of the Emerald Isle! It was an incredible week of learning about each other’s culture, identity, language, dances, music, food and so many other aspects or Irish and Basque life. Friends were made, perhaps even the odd romance blossomed, who knows! All in all, it was a really fantastic experience for all concerned. Huge thanks to Jono Griffin and the Irish team of leaders (Beth, Leah, Tim and Natalia) that hosted the first phase of this unique cultural exchange. The Irish team will be travelling to Zarautz in the Basque Country in August 2012 to join their friends for a week in the sunshine (hopefully)!
We would like to particularly thank John McCarthy and the Lahinch Surf School, Duncan Cusack and the West Coast Lodge, Matt Coleman, David Olsthoorn, Ben Bennett and so many more that made the week possible.
See you in Zarautz in a couple of months!!
