Cross Culture Surf partnered with Surfrider Foundation in May 2013, to participate in and to promote a national beach clean at Santiago beach (Zumaia) and the tunnel at Orrua (Getaria). The initiative promoted environmental awareness, provided support to the local surf community as well as serving to educate both young people and adults of the importance in being responsible for the waste we produce as well as learning how to decrease the direct impact that it has on the maritime environment.
In addition to Surfrider and Cross Culture Surf, the event was also supported by various institutions and organisations including: Zumaia, Getaria and Zarautz town halls, EHSF (Basque Country Surf Federation), GSF (Gipuzkoa Surf Federation), Gaztetape Surf Club, Zarautz Surf Club, Christian Surfers, Orokieta School, Salbatore Mitxelena school, and the Balurdin parents association.

Cross Culture Surf applauds the work of organisations such as Surfrider Foundation and Surfers Against Sewage. We have a responsibility to carefully steward and manage our natural environment. Whenever we visit a spot to surf, we ought to leave it cleaner than we find it. Invest in a pair of rubber gloves and a roll of dustbin bags, leave them in the boot of you car, and make sure you use them to clean the beach after each surf.
